inferno-triathlon.jpgThe INFERNO Triathlon is with its 5’500 metres height difference one of the hardest in the world and is already considered one of the classics. The unforgettable nature experience in the unique Bernese Alps and the family atmosphere makes the INFERNO into aone of the most impressive sport spectacle. Sport in front of the most beautiful scenery in the world: Eiger, Moench and Jungfrau!

Swimming:
Thun – Oberhofen
Distance 3.1 km

Road Bike:
Oberhofen (562 metres above sea level) – Sigriswil (810) – Beatenberg (1153) – Interlaken (563) – Meiringen (593) – Grosse Scheidegg (1962) – Grindelwald (943).
Distance 97 km, climb 2145 m.

Mountain Bike:
Grindelwald (943) – Kleine Scheidegg (2061) – Wengen (1275) – Lauterbrunnen (795) – Stechelberg (862).
Distance 30 km, climb 1180 m.

Mountain Run:
Stechelberg (862) – Lauterbrunnen (795) – Mürren (1640) – Schilthorn (2970).
Distance 25 km, climb 2175 m.

Timetable

Friday, 18th August 2006

12. a.m. – 5. p.m. Check-in at the transition areas Oberhofen (Road Bike)
Grindelwald (Mountain Bike) and Stechelberg (Run)
6 p.m. Athletes’ briefing in Mürren (compulsory for all competitors)

Saturday, 19th August 2006

6.30 a.m. Start of swimming event at Strandbad Thun
8.30 p.m. Finishing time on the Schilthorn

Due to safety reasons, the finishing time on the Schilthorn must be strictly observed. Competitors will be taken out of the race if the control checkpoints are not reached as followed:

Transition area Oberhofen
8.15 a.m.
Transition area Grindelwald
1.15 p.m.
Transition area Stechelberg
4.30 p.m.
Alpinen Sportzentrum Mürren
6 p.m.
Schilthorntraverse (catering station)
7.30 p.m.

Categories

HK (main class) year of birth 1986 – 1972
AK1 (age group 1) year of birth 1971 – 1962
AK2 (age group 2) year of birth 1961 – 1952
AK3 (age group 3) year of birth 1951 and older

The rankings for men and women will be made separately. If there are less than three classifications pro age group, the competitors will be put into the next lower age group.

Prizes

The following prize money will be paid each for women and men alike:

1st place CHF 1500.-
2nd place CHF 1000.-
3rd place CHF 750.-
4th place CHF 500.-
5th place CHF 250.-

The prize money will be paid out after the “overall ranking”. If less than 10 competitors have classified, then 4th and 5th places will not be honoured. Tax at source will be deducted for foreign competitors.

The winner of each category will receive a memorandum prize.
Each finishing competitor will receive the INFERNO Triathlon-Finisher-T-Shirt.

Entry fees

CHF 420.- / EURO 285.- for entries received before 19th July 2006
CHF 470.- / EURO 320.- for entries received after 20st July 2006

The entry fee includes: 2 return tickets for the Schilthorn cableway Stechelberg – Schilthorn, 3 tickets Stechelberg – Mürren, 2 tickets for the Pasta-Party on 18th and 19th August 2006 in Mürren, 2 bus transfers Stechelberg – Thun (at the start and after the race) on 19th August 2006.
