Maestrani Chocolaterie
Chocolate is a divine delight – as legend has it. The Aztecs worshipped the cacao bean as a gift from heaven. And as a gift from the New to the Old World, the first shipment sailed to Seville in 1528. In Spain, the bitter drink called “xocolatl” was transformed into a sweet temptation in no time at all. The Spanish Court was thrilled. And so were the French, the English and the Swiss.
But how did chocolate find its way to Switzerland?
It all started with young Swiss tradesmen who opened their own chocolate manufactories after their years as apprentices and journeymen were over. They acquired the skills of the Italian confectioners and cioccolatieri who sold the brown commodity very expensively. The milestone on the way to becoming a sweet world power was set by a Swiss in 1875: he invented milk chocolate. By mixing cacao with milk the taste became even more refined – ingenious!
Chocolaterie Maestrani surprises with adventure-oriented event offers
Tourist and residents now find a unique and unequalled store in the old town of St. Gallen – the Chocolaterie by Maestrani. The stylish outlet, located directly opposite the entrance to the cathedral, celebrates chocolate delight. Whilst guests enjoy finest drinking chocolate in the chocolate café, others stock up on sweet Minor and Munz chocolate specialties. A chocolate studio and a vault have been installed in the basement where the company from eastern Switzerland only recently started carrying out various events. «The Swiss are known as „chocoholics“ and in addition, most tourists equate Switzerland with excellent chocolate quality», Reto Preisig, Head of Marketing at Maestrani explains. «With our concept that is unique in Switzerland we would like to introduce interested circles to the secrets of chocolate production. In our event store we organize children’s birthday parties with chocolate fondue as well as chocolate molding for adults, company receptions and various special events.» The company also offers very innovative event ideas.
Wine & Chocolate Tasting in the Chocolaterie Maestrani, St. Gallen
«Wine & Chocolate Tasting», the Chocolaterie offers a two hours event in which guests discover a new passion. The participants are introduced to wine and chocolate tasting by a specialist and discover that these two products are closely related to nature and – selected correctly – go together very well. Maestrani organizes these events with the support of its partner company Mövenpick Wein. Peter Klein, Managing Director Mövenpick Wein, St. Gallen, carries out the Wine & Chocolate seminars and comments them as follows: «Wine and chocolate together are a fascinating thrill for the senses. Something very special for gourmets.» The guests are served six wines and as many Maestrani specialties. Thereby, they are introduced to the adventure step by step. The magnificent vault and romantic candlelight in the over 500 years old «Blue House» give the event its unforgettable atmosphere. With this event offer, Maestrani contributes actively with the Chocolaterie to the adventure-oriented strategy of the city.
