This area is a great one for ocean kayaking year round. It’s just so beautiful in Kailua and Lanikai beaches!
Aloha,
I went to Mid Pac high school on Oahu, and one of my favorite memories was actually a day we spent at Kailua. My buddy and I went and dawn-patrolled body surfing at Sandy’s beach and then we went up to Kailua and met his girlfriend and some of her friends and her family. They had a couple of plastic kayaks and we spent all day just hanging out at the beach and swimming and playing. It was one of those magical days that I can remember not having a care in the world. Now with kids and jobs and all that, those days seem to be far and few between. Sad, because that is all I want my kids to experience. I just saw on facebook that my 20th reunion is this weekend on Oahu. OMG am I that old!
On a different note. My brother-in-law owns Kamanu Composites on Oahu and they make killer outrigger canoes. This is not a spam to pump him, they are back-ordered for months. Just if you are looking for some guys to talk shop about competitive paddling, they love to talk story. As long as it’s about paddling, they will talk your ears off.
Sorry, thanks for the vent, great site.
Thanks,
Chris Gamby
