The biennial contest will be the largest international sports event held in Kentucky, The 37th Ryder Cup at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Ky., will be played from Sept. 19-21, 2008. Valhalla Golf Club, designed by Jack Nicklaus and opened in 1986, has been host to the 1996 and 2000 PGA Championships, the 2002 PGA Professional National Championship and the 2004 Senior PGA Championship.

The date for The 2008 Ryder Cup was announced by PGA of America President, Roger Warren, who said, “The PGA of America joins the city of Louisville and the Commonwealth of Kentucky with great anticipation of The 37th Ryder Cup coming to Valhalla Golf Club. Kentuckians know what it means to be outstanding hosts and model sports fans. The 37th edition of The Ryder Cup will be an opportunity to showcase Louisville, Kentucky and the game of golf to the world.”

Valhalla Golf Club, ranked No. 70 in the most recent list of “America’s 100 Greatest Golf Courses,” by Golf Digest, was the scene of Tiger Woods‘ PGA Championship playoff victory over Bob May in 2000.

The 36th Ryder Cup at The K Club, Straffan, Co. Kildare, Ireland, was played from Sept. 22-24, 2006, with the Europeans scoring their second straight 18 1/2-9 1/2 victory. The Celtic Manor Resort in Wales will host The 2010 Ryder Cup; Medinah Golf Club, Illinois, in 2012; The Gleneagles Hotel, Scotland, in 2014; Hazeltine National Golf Club, Minnesota in 2016 and Whistling Straits, Wisconsin in 2020.

What an interesting website/blog. I will enjoy coming back and finding some fun things to do. Have been to a couple ryder cups and they are a blast. The crowd at Oak Hill in 95 was the loudest I have heard. Thanks for the nice words about my very new (less than a week) blog. Keep checking us out – it will get better. Good Luck with yours

The Ryder Cup was a few minutes away from our home last year in Straffan, Kildare.

Hubby was given tickets but couldn’t go

  3. Irishlass Says:

Oooh how sad. I’m going to try my best to make it next year, even though it’s a long long way to Sacramento (I almost said Tipperary ;^D)

I would like to ask you a question : What about real sailing vacations, and sailing yachts ?

This year the pretegious art fair lands on the last weekend of the Ryder
Cup, which is taking place in Louisville, KY. The free event takes place on September 20 and 21 and features juried artists from around the country, great food, crafts for the
kids and plenty more. It’s Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.
It’s happening on the beautiful Ursuline Campus at 3105 Lexington Road,
    Louisville, KY, 40206.

  6. Nancy Says:

There are all kinds of great free events around Louisville when not at the Cup…

PRIVATE COUNTRY ESTATE 7 bedrooms, 6000+ sq. ft. on 26 acres just minutes from Ryder Cup. Contact info is on site: http://www.rydercuprentalproperty.com.

Also something for fun while in Kentucky is http://www.mintjuleptours.com and eating at what the locals refer to as The Colonel’s Lady restaurant. Colonel Sander’s wife has a home-cookin’ eatery east of Louisville on Hiway 60.
Or the Old Stone Inn also on Hiway 60.
(I should have been a food critic!!)

  8. Heidi - JAX Says:

Any suggestions for hotels for the Ryder Cup?

Will you join me for Ryder Cup 2010 in Wales? http://www.rydercupwales2010.com/

  10. Margaret Lassiter Says:

So proud that we had the Ryde Cup in Wales and that it was a win for all of us. Don’t know muchabout Golf but I got interested when I first saw Tiger Woods play. Couldn’t get over the way he studied the ball, the wind etc. Of course all golfers do but he was “the an to watch” and will be again. You go Tiger.

Something to say?
