Le Race
“If you want to race it, Le Race can be the hardest race you’ll ever do. But if you want to just finish and enjoy it, the scenery makes for a fantastic day out.”

Ride on your cycle in a mass start from the cathedral in the center of
Christchurch at sea level, climb up the barren Port Hills to 1600 feet,
fall back down to sea level along the spectacular side of a volcanic ridge,
speed through low lying farms and around a long freshwater lake with views
to the ocean, struggle back up and along seemingly endless hills and ridges
to 2300 feet, where you will find the final, exhilarating four miles are
before you and you may (must!) race down at a thrilling 50 miles an hour to
the finish line at sea level on the village green of picturesque Akaroa,
founded by the French in 1840. About 60 miles long, all roads paved, the
fastest riders blitzing it in about three hours, with 3 1/2 hours a very
respectable time. Limited this year (we ride on March 24) to just 2000
riders. This is something you MUST do!
