Pho Mai - Middletown, Connecticutt

Guest Author: Julie Rorrer of www.smashingdarling.com

If you happen to find yourself in Middletown, Connecticut, there is an
excellent Vietnamese restaurant that’s not to be missed. Nestled in
amongst laundrymats, sketchy convenience stores, and various shops on
Main Street is a little hidden gem called Pho Mai.

To be sure, Pho Mai is a bit of a hole in the wall, but if you can
look past the somewhat bland decor, you’ll discover some of the finest
Vietnamese food you’re likely to find in Connecticut. The specialty of
the house is Pho, the traditional Vietnamese soup with rice noodles,
which is offered in a number of different varieties. My favorite is
#10, beef Pho. My husband raves about the Hot and Sour soup with
shrimp.

The soups come adorned with lots of fresh sides (sprouts, jalapeno
slices, lime, basil) as well as a variety of sauces that allow you to
adjust the flavor and spiciness to your preference. There are lots of
things on the menu to try, and you’re sure to find something to suit
you (lots for vegetarians, too.) And don’t forget the fresh spring
rolls!

In business since 2003, Pho Mai is 100% family owned and operated, and
the service is nothing short of wonderful. It is a comfortable,
inviting, and friendly place to enjoy a meal with friends, and on a
blustery winter day there is absolutely nothing that warms the soul
like a steaming bowl of Pho.

Thank you so much to my guest author, Julie Rorrer, the co-founder of www.smashingdarling.com. Their slogan is “We’re like a megamall of indie fashion … but without the food courts. Or the evil.” Check out their fantastic clothing and accesories.
