Mandarin Oriental Washington, D.C. Spa and Jazz … Nothing Could Be Better

The Spa is one of the nicest I have ever been to … and the music was marvelous with a view of the monuments outside the windows … the Irishlass

The Spa

Honoring Mandarin Oriental’s eastern culture while incorporating local influences, our signature Spa is 10,500 square feet of total luxury. Here you will find everything you can imagine to pamper and soothe mind, body and spirit. Like amethyst steam rooms, experience showers, relaxation areas; a vitality pool and ice fountain for ladies, and a sauna and cold plunge pool for gentlemen. Throughout, warm neutral colors abound, to convey the feeling of earth and sun for serenity and relaxation.

From the moment you walk into the reception area with its Zen-like ambience enhanced by burnished bronze ceiling, oak floors and light sycamore walls, the air is suffused with the fragrance of Mandarin Signature aromatherapy candles. From there, it’s time to leave the real world behind you and enter a new dimension of relaxation, which begins with a private consultation and a calming, complimentary infused seasonal beverage.

The Jazz

A sunken enclave and an inviting escape from the city, Empress Lounge offers signature martinis, cocktails, wines, champagnes, sakes, cognacs and teas. A great place to people watch, listening to the refrains of a pianist or a jazz trio during weekend nights.

The main focal point of the Lobby and Empress Lounge is the playful painting “Empress Dowager over DC.”. Chinese Artist Zhong-Yang Huang was commissioned do a Washington, DC interpretation of his piece “Above The Forbidden City” that depicts the Last Empress of China flying over Beijing, China. The Empress was a very powerful woman who was only barely behind the curtain of three emperors, as well as behind the introduction of Western powers and influences into China.

She lived in the Forbidden City, the most powerful city in the Eastern World, and had a fascination with the West. The Empress is now swinging over Washington DC, the most powerful city in the world. Her fascination with the western world could be considered complete.
