i’Lorenzaccio – Florence, Italy

Best Pizza in Florence
On normal occasions I wouldn’t bring family or close friends to this type of restaurant located in a touristy area, but this one is different. Situated right in the middle of Florence’s center, i’Lorenzaccio is a restaurant full of history. Addressed as Piazza della Signoria 32-33-34, facing the north side of the Palazzo Vecchio is i’Lorenzaccio.
A frequent diner and a regular at the pub next door, Michael Collins, I grew fond of the atmosphere surrounding this corner of the piazza. A family run business since 1968, and now managed by the owner’s, Paolo Ricci, youngest son, Michelangelo. Not the artist, he embodies an old soul with a big heart. After meeting each family member one by one, I started to call Lorenzaccio home. The staff became a second family as Florence became my destination of choice. I would bring everyone I knew who came to Florence for the first time; tourists, students, fellow au pairs, and my own family to this delicious, dining pleasure.
The specialties consist of the wood-burning oven pizza presented to you hot right out of the brick oven made by Luciano. Another favorite is the Calzone which is as large as your head, literally. An enticing adventure in your mouth with so much mozzarella and ricotta, I am not sure which one tastes better however they are filling my belly. I suggest the Pizza Lorenzaccio created by my friend, Michelangelo, topped with the famous prosciutto crudo, sun-dried tomatoes, arugala, black olives, mozzarella. By the same name but an insalata(salad), Insalata Lorenzaccio is another favorite of mine, consisting of prosciutto of parma, fresh tomatoes, mouth-watering mozzarella, black olives and lettuce of course. It really is refreshing and full of flavor. Perfect for a hot summer day. Topping it with fresh olive oil and red wine vinegar, I wouldn’t have it any other way.
The average meal would run you starting from 25 euro. The experience is worth it. Talk with the waiters. Ask about the food. You are on vacation in Florence, make i’Lorenzaccio your next stop for an authentic Italian scene.

I’ve eaten there, and I agree — it is yummy!
Ciao!
I have been eating there for years and it is always yummy.
Order a large beer there, it will be the only drink you need for the whole meal.
My friends and I just got back from Florence. We stumbled across this restaurant one afternoon when we saw a couple form our group eating lunch there. Needless to say we fell in love with the food, the waiters (esp. Giuseppe and Lapo)! We spent most afternoons there – we felt like family after we left!!! I can’t wait to go back!
Bryan & Joanne,
Thanks so much for visiting my site and commenting.
My friends Katie & Angela say that i’Lorenzaccio is a fantastic spot & they are the girls in the know! Between the two of them, they know almost all there is to know about Roma & Firenze.

My aunt and I recently stayed in a B&B just next door to Lorenzaccio’s. We ate there 3 times and had drinks there at least 3 times. The food was very good and the service was excellent. All the wait staff were very friendly and attentive. And, I agree with the poster above, Giuseppe was AWESOME and Jacopo was so sweet. Go there, you won’t be disappointed!
WOW I am loving the comments here.
Giuseppe, Iacopo, and Lapo are my family, I am so glad you all enjoyed your time there. Be sure to tell them Kate from Chicago sent you
a presto,
Kate
Nice recommendation, good to know you can still get this type of experience at a restaurant in a tourist area!
