Tis’ the Season of Art in the Park

Each year the organizers from the Desert Botanical Gardens arrange for some spectacular exhibits in the gardens included Picass Ceramics, Gary Lee Price Sculptures and the annual spring Butterfly exhibit This year proves no different. The Presentation of the glass art exhibit “The Nature of Glass” by Dale Chihuly runs from November 19, 2008 through May 31, 2009.
Chihuly’s “A Nature of Glass” features innovative and unique works of glass art sculptures woven throughout the garden. You will find a variety of shapes, colors and sizes of blown glass sculptures. The annual Las Noches de las Luminarias features the lighting of the Chihuly’s exhibition joined by thousands of hand‐lit luminarias along the garden pathways and cheerful decorations to bring the spirit and warmth of the holiday season.
Chihuly’s creations are found in more than 200 museums and gardens around the globe including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Smithsonian American Art Museum, New York Botanical Garden, Phipps Conservatory and the Royal Botanical Garden in Kew. This is his first exhibition in a desert garden.
Dining options are available at the gardens at the Patio cafe on the Patio Terrace. Menu includes Sandwiches and Salads from Southwestern Chicken Breast Sandwich, Beef and Gorgonzola Sandwich or a Southwestern Chef Salad and Seasonal Soup. Don’t forget to grab a bag of chips and fresh baked chocolate chip cookie.
Also featured are local musicians to filing the events with live music ranging from the smooth sounds of jazz, string quartets and classical guitar, Bells to Salsa for the enjoyment of the guests.
Reservations are required for the special exhibition.
Hours: 8 a.m.-8 p.m. with three timed entry sessions.
8 a.m.-noon/noon-4 p.m./4.p.m.-8 p.m.
Be sure to visit the Garden Shop before leave the grounds. The Garden Shop carries a diverse selection of items from local artists and plants from around the world. Merchandise ranges from bird feeders in metal and glass, a variety of children and adult books, jewelry, gourmet foods, decorative garden art, and apparel. Included in the book collection is Chihuly, “Gardens and Glass.” This 192 page hardbound book features 97 photographs of his most memorable outdoor exhibitions.

Visitors to the Arizona Desert will enjoy spending a day visiting the gardens. The spring blooms are especially dramatic and showing the vivid colors of the Southwest Desert.
