Machrie Hotel & Golf Links - Isle of Islay, Scotland
Machrie Hotel and Golf Links – a home from home on the beautiful Hebridean island of Islay. The Machrie offers the ideal balance: a famous classic links course perched above the golden sands of Laggan bay – an unforgettable golfing experience – combined with a hotel run with the warmth and informality that brings people back time and again.
Islay offers so many activities for the visitor: golfing, walking and wildlife-watching, nature cruises, whisky distillery visits, cycling, riding, fishing, heritage discovery and craft shopping. It’s also a good place to relax, read a good book, and recharge your batteries.
The island hosts a whisky festival in May/June, a Jazz festival in September, both great times to visit. Also in September is the annual Book festival. For more information about these and other Islay festivals, or any of the island’s other activities, contact the Tourist Office in Bowmore on +44 (0) 1496 810254.
There are many reasons why you have to come and play the Machrie Golf Links, not least to discover why so many golfers find it a bewitching and exalting experience. Laid out in 1891 by pioneering designer Willie Campbell, and respected among golfing cognoscenti, The Machrie is now getting a wider name for itself as one of the world’s top links courses
