Sanctuary by the Sea - Pacific Grove, California

Vacation Rental Monterey
Guest Author Joyce Copeland
This 1,800-square foot Mediterranean-style villa is the perfect vacation rental for a small family or up to three couples. It’s perfectly located, just uphill from Ocean View Boulevard in Pacific Grove, tucked between exclusive Carmel and touristy Monterey. Once you reach the Coastal Trail, it’s a five-minute walk to the Monterey Bay Aquarium (where you can use the two free passes that come with the rental) and 10 minutes to the pretty beach at Lovers Point. You can even walk to dinner.
To make the most of its view, Sanctuary by the Sea Pacific Grove has a reverse floor plan. From the living area you looking across rooftops to bright blue ocean and gorgeous sunsets. The upper level feels expansive thanks to a pitched, beamed ceiling, French doors and band of windows. There are balconies — one long and narrow off the living room, and the other large enough for only one off the dining room.
One of the owners is a former professional chef, so the open kitchen has top-of-the-line professional appliances, including a Wolf stove, and every utensil, pot, serving dish, plate and cocktail glass you need to create a multi-course gourmet meal.
You arrive to a handwritten note, framed welcome (greeting you by name) and homemade torta and bottle of local wine. The dining room (with a view) seats six, but the kitchen bar is great chatting while you cook or serving kids’ meals.
The living room has a corner (gas) fireplace and a large flat-screen. The house is dotted with potted orchids, bunches of lilies and sunflowers, fat candles, and lots and lots of pillows.
The master bedroom (upstairs) is the largest and most romantic of the three, with a low-beamed ceiling and small, private balcony. But I’d be perfectly comfortable in either of the roomy, very luxurious downstairs bedrooms that share a bathroom.
Sanctuary by the Sea has Wi-Fi, a library of CDs and movies, a two-car attached garage, all the comforts of home, and then some. Plus you’ll be treated to complimentary passes to a nearby day spa and can request a concierge ($35 an hour), refrigerator stocking service or even a private chef. At about $2,000 a week, three couples would pay only about $95 a night! (A great deal in this exclusive area.) See Joyce’s full review at Sanctuary by the Sea.
