A Little Bit of Class Comes to Fairfield By Rob Saunders

There is no such thing as "authentic" Mexican food in California. Our Gringo-tourist mentality has dumbed down the true flavors and combinations of the real Mexican style of eating.

However, if you crave what I call "Mexi-Cali" dining, I highly recommend Favela Fusion. Finally, a bit od flare comes to Fairfield!

Favela Fusion is a funny name for a restaurant, and there is no fusion involved in the cooking except for the upscale way it is served.

Owner Veronica Favela has gone the extra mile to provide a somewhat traditional fare, with a twist in the way the dishes are prepared and presented.

I suppose the "fusion" comes in the fact that the decor of the restaurant is not your normal sombreros and bullfighters on the wall motif, but rather a delightful array of fine art in the Spanish style.

Besides the traditional burritos, which Veronica is famous for, the menu features enchiladas with a mole, fresh fruits and vegetables and the use of non-traditional foods. The best deal on the menu are the sandwiches.

The bar area is quite large and boasts 43 different types of tequilas and the Margaritas are made the original way using agave syrup instead of Triple Sec.

Favela Fusion is not pricey and the service is prompt and friendly. The restaurant is located at 1500 Oliver Rd. in Fairfield, Ca.
