Poor Red’s - El Dorado, California

Sunset Magazine recommends that while you’re in El Dorado County you Eat Good Barbecue
Sunset, June, 2002 — EL DORADO After a day on the American River, veteran whitewater rafters head to the Gold Country’s Poor Red’s BAR-B-Q, an 1850s Wells Fargo stage stop serving mesquite-grilled ribs, chicken, and steak. The wait can be long, but the regulars know to hit the bar for an icy Gold Cadillac, the creamy Galliano concoction so popular that Poor Red’s uses more of the liqueur than anyplace in the world.

I was curious to see if Poor Red’s was still open for the next time I am in CA. visiting. It’s been years since I was there because of moving. I have taken lots of people there while I lived in CA. I also, after the first time I went, that if you want to eat at half way decent time you need to go early!! Also, by going early enough, you can find out if the food is as good as many have said. By not spending a few hours in the bar before eating you will find out that the food is as good when you’re sober as when you have had a few of the excellent drinks they make. I can honestly say the food is good no matter what your condition- really! If anyone’s ever close they should make the attempt to eat there and have a few drinks afterward or if you don’t mind waitng have a few drinks first.
