What is Noseriding?

Noseriders are a special breed. Most longboarders are content with a long, curling break, wind in the face and the sun rising over the hill. Those on the nose seek a little more style and a little more flair from their 9′-plus boards. Hanging ten is the ultimate ride, both feet so far up on the nose that the toes cut trails in the water ahead and the wave keeps its delicate grip on the tail for a few breathless seconds.

Noseriding competitions reward surfers who can stretch those few seconds out a little longer than the next competitor. The United Surfing Association defines “nose” as the leading 24 inches of the board, and those who spend the most time in that revered territory at the preliminary competition in July earn the right to compete for local bragging rights in the championship round at Leo Carillo, a favorite for longboarders. The top three times out of 10 maximum waves per rider are averaged to determine a winner in men’s, women’s, 14-and-under and 50+ divisions, and all participants’ boards must measure between 9 and 11 feet.

The FlowRider is part of the Wave House Athletic Club (Located at Wave House South) and is considered SoCal’s penultimate workout environment, second only to the ocean. Catch the 5am hardcore swim at the historic Plunge - San Diego’s historic, heated indoor pool, join the 7am dawn patrol yoga class, or pump iron any time of the day or night.

With the FlowRider sheetwave, the athletic club is the USA’s first fitness center to offer year-round training for the boardsports community. It takes practice, but once you get it, the feeling of the carve is smooooth and satisfying.

Club Ed’s surf camp and surf school in Santa Cruz, CA is the perfect learning vacation. Ed’s surfing school is the most respected surfing school in the world. At surf camp, you learn to ride the waves and experience the healthy, exciting sport of surfing first hand. You can also get private lessons at Ed’s world renowned surf school. Don’t put off learning to surf, sign up for instruction from Club Ed.

The HB Surf Series will hold four of six events at the most visible surf venue in the world, the famous Southside of Huntington Beach Pier. Nine divisions comprise the events and include: Super Grom, Boys, Juniors, Men, Masters, Super Men, Women, Longboard, and Professional.

Summer Fun Surf Camp

Camping facilities for ages 10-18 years old include:Tents (girls and boys separate), showers, fire, rings, outside amphitheater and T.V. comfort zone complete with large T.V., couches and lounge chairs.
Adults (18 and over) are in a separate campsite and will be involved in a different program which will include: stretching and fitness seminar, C.P.R. certification program and basic water safety class (approved by the American Heart Association). Whether you are young or young at heart, S.F.S.C. will help your “Dreams of Surfing Become a Reality.” The ultimate “Learn to Surf” camp for all ages.
