You can't go wrong at The Top of the Cove, La Jolla

As one of La Jolla's first structures, the original bungalow was designed and built in 1893 as a residence for the George M. Hawley family by the Thorpe and Kennedy Firm. Although it has gone through alterations over the years, some of the distinguishing features that remain include the hipped roofs and dormer, beautifully proportioned leaded windows and some of the interior detailing. (A fireplace was rediscovered as recently as the early 1980's during a refurbishing project).

In 1920 Frederick L. Brown and family bought the cottage. One of the "founding fathers" of La Jolla, Brown opened the village's first real estate office and founded Mary Star of the Sea Church.

The cottage was converted into a restaurant in 1953, when it opened as the Buffet Restaurant. Its second incarnation was in 1955, when it reopened as Top Of The Cove.

Although the creation of an "Old La Jolla Historic District" was opposed in 1976, the cottage survived the fate of other "older" buildings that were demolished to make way for new plazas and developments.

These days Top Of The Cove has earned the reputation as one of the finest award-winning dining establishments. Your guests will enjoy the timeless elegance of the atmosphere and professional and personal attention of a staff that wants to ensure a memorable occasion.

It is the intention of the staff of Top Of The Cove to provide all of your guests with memories of an unforgettable evening. From the very first moment they walk through the door they can be assured of the kind of professional and personal attention that has resulted in our many awards to date and all the others that will surely follow.

Ron Zappardino has been the proprietor of the landmark restaurant since August of 1985.

"An important restaurant....very much the place where one would go for a special occasion"
David Nelson - Los Angeles Times

"View is terrific, the candlelight flattering, and the invitation to romance explicit"
Leslie James - San Diego Union

"The wine list, like the service, decor and view, serves to elevate the restaurant to a rather rarefied plane"
David Nelson - Los Angeles Times

A memorable dining experience awaits you as you enter the Christy Hill Restaurant in the center of Tahoe City. The restaurant sits just 100 feet above the shoreline of Lake Tahoe on an elevated embankment offering diners a panoramic vista. The intimate setting offers guests a view that is only upstaged by the cuisine. Spectacular sunsets that can be seen from every table and the engaging stone fireplace are just a few of the reasons that Christy Hill was voted "Most Romantic Restaurant" by the San Francisco Chronicle.

Christy Hill celebrates 22 years as one of Lake Tahoe's most popular and enduring restaurants. Using the freshest and finest seasonal ingredients the cuisine is "Seasonal California" with French influenced sauces. Diners enjoy a chance to explore fine wines from around the world with an extensive list that has received a Wine Spectator "Award of Excellence" since 1982. The knowledgeable staff is ready to assist your with all of your food and wine selections. Service is attentive in a casually elegant manner and enhanced by wonderful food that is fresh and innovative. Written up in the L.A. Times, Wall Street Journal, Bon Appétit, S.F. Chronicle and Reno Gazette Journal, after two decades the Christy Hill Restaurant continues to reward food and wine lovers with exquisite food in a cozy, relaxed and inviting atmosphere. A night out at Christy Hill will certainly be remembered as a highlight of your visit to Lake Tahoe.

Sam's Anchor Cafe in Tiburon is one of my very favorite spots.

Since 1920 , Sam's Anchor Cafe has been a favorite waterfront restaurant on San Francisco Bay . Located in Marin County in the quaint historical township of Tiburon , we have long been famous for our American/seafood cuisine , our fun atmosphere and breathtaking views of Angel Island , Alcatraz and the San Francisco skyline!

Our Ramos Fizz 's are legendary! Weekdays & evenings are always relaxing and on weekends, well, we're just the most popular place on the Bay. It has been said that if you stay long enough you'll see everyone you've ever known. Come see for yourself why The San Francisco Chronicle voted us The Bay Area's Best Outdoor Restaurant!

Evenings at Sam's are especially rewarding. Unwind with your friends and a favorite beverage to one of our "Kodak" Sunsets . Then dine in the warm atmosphere of our remodeled dining rooms and treat yourself to the tastes of 70 years of culinary excellence from our seasonal dinner menu and our individually-selected wine list .

Whether you're visiting for brunch, lunch, dinner or just a few relaxing moments on our deck, rest assured that we will continue to provide you with the quality and service for which we are recognized.

All Hospitality is a forgone conclusion at Sam's and our Web site is no different. We think of it as our own virtual community. So we've gone to great lengths to keep you up-to-date on what's happening at Sam's and around Tiburon . Our 'Sam's Cam' gives you a peek at our popular deck as well as a glimpse at the local weather in case you're planning on sailing over. There's lots of other helpful information here, too, like our events calendar , photo gallery and our virtual Tiburon Tour . You can even purchase a gift certificate or pick up some cool Sam's logo merchandise from our secure online store.

So Come Visit Us!

Our hours are...
Lunch Monday to Friday 11:00am to 5:00pm
Lunch Saturday and Sunday 2:00pm to 5:00pm
Brunch Saturday and Sunday 9:30am to 2:00pm
Dinner Nightly from 5:00pm until 10pm
The bar is open until 1:30am nightly

My favorite in the Monterey Carmel area. – Lunch and a stroll at the Ventana Inn. They have an outdoor patio that overlooks the Pacific. Ventana Inn is a pricey resort and spa but you can experience the feel of it and the beautiful view of the Pacific with a very reasonably priced lunch on the patio. Then afterwards take the stroll on the path back toward the resort or up the hill behind the restaurant. If you can afford it, spend the night there for one of the most relaxing (and romantic) places on the coast.

Nestled on a hillside overlooking Big Sur's dramatic Pacific coastline, Ventana offers the ultimate in accommodations for those seeking a romantic getaway, luxurious escape or a relaxing vacation. Spacious suites, villas and guest rooms are elegantly rustic with thoughtful appointments. Located on 243 acres in the heart of Big Sur, the Inn's unique one-and two-story buildings blend seamlessly into their natural surroundings.

Award-winning Cielo restaurant offers inspired lunch and dinner menus with "views to forever" of the ocean and rugged Big Sur coastline. The restaurant features a legendary terrace with outdoor fireplace. Relax by one of two pools, soak in Japanese hot baths, re-center at Allegria spa or just contemplate the sky from your own private hammock. Complimentary daily yoga classes and a sumptuous Big Sur breakfast complete the Big Sur experience at Ventana.

Brockton Villa

Historic Charm Overlooking the La Jolla Cove

Picture yourself sitting in a cottage that is part of the rich history of old La Jolla. The La Jolla Historical Society has provided wonderful stories about the Brockton Villa that have truly made the spirit of its past come alive for us.

Today, the property is listed on the San Diego Historical Sites Board Register as the Dr. Rhodes/Brockton Villa House.

It remains a significant reminder of the architectural past alive in our La Jolla Community: simple and lovely, blessed by the sea, the sand, and the sun.

We look forward to seeing you soon at Brockton Villa.

Another fabulous view restaurant is the Orange Hills Restaurant -- fire pits outside so you can watch the nightly Disneyland fireworks.

Too bad they have no website.
