    Doesn’t this sound completely fabulous?

One of Los Angeles’ most exciting new restaurants, Vibrato Grill Jazz … etc. is also the city’s premiere jazz space. Its warm and elegant interior embraces guests with stunning visuals, world-class music & sound design, and the absolute best in contemporary American cuisine. Conceived by 7X GRAMMY-winning music icon Herb Alpert, Vibrato brings these elements together in sumptuous harmony for an experience that’s a delight to all the senses. Opened in 2004, Vibrato is part of the Smith Brothers Restaurant group, owners of the acclaimed Pasadena trio of eateries Parkway Grill, Arroyo Chop House, and Smitty’s Grill.
Perched atop Mulholland Drive on Beverly Glen Circle in Bel Air, Vibrato is easily accessible from all points of the greater L.A. area. Once inside its inviting confines—where culinary pleasures of the palate and the free-form wonders of jazz beautifully co-exist—patrons will find a retreat from the city that is both relaxed and sophisticated. Vibrato is as full of creature comforts as it is Epicurean delights.

The contemporary American fare on Vibrato’s savory menu ranges from the choicest steaks to exquisite seafood delicacies. Signature favorites also include tender veal chop with house-made mozzarella cheese and fresh tomato sauce, organic Sonoma chicken, live Maine lobster, Wild Salmon with roasted beets, arugula and horseradish buerre blanc, and some of the best prime beef in all of Southern California, from filet mignon to New York strip. The grace note of Vibrato’s cuisine is the tempting array of sweets and pastries to put the finishing touch on a memorable evening.

The expansive and upscale bar serves a full range of classic and specialty cocktails, including a variety of martinis, cosmopolitans, and “lemon drops.” Premium beers and wines—by the glass and by the bottle—are available as well…Vibrato’s outstanding wine list recently earned the Award of Excellence from Wine Spectator magazine. For a full dinner, a light bite or drinks and show only, Vibrato’s spacious wood and granite bar is one of L.A.’s finest.

Here’s a partial listing of musicians who have played at Vibrato.

    Billy Childs
    Bobby Hutcherson
    Carl Saunders
    Chuck Mangione
    Gary Burton
    Houston Person
    Kenny Barron
    Kenny Werner
    Makoto Ozone
    Phil Woods
    Steve Tyrell

Humphrey’s Concerts by the Bay is located between Humphrey’s Restaurant and Humphrey’s Half Moon Inn. The 1,350 seat outdoor theatre, ideally situated on San Diego Bay, has been presenting a wide variety of major attractions since 1982. Generally running from May through October, Humphrey’s Concerts covers the total spectrum of entertainment from rock and jazz to comedy, blues, folk and international music.

They haven’t released their 2006 concert schedule yet, but in the past they’ve hosted such greats as Tony Bennett, Jane Monheit, Harry Connick, Jr, Nancy Sinatra, B.B. King & Julio Iglesias

(I include Julio for you Stacey!)

Located next door to one another in the historic Gaslamp district of San Diego. Croce’s Jazz Bar and Croce’s Top Hat are a sure thing for live music.

Sunday, May 7, 2006 Steamers presents Jazz on the Latin Side

On Friday night, January 7, 2000, what began as the 10th anniversary celebration of the “Jazz on the Latin Side” radio program on KKJZ(KJAZZ), became the birth of the Jazz on the Latin Side All Stars. 28 Top LA musicians gave the full-house (550 capacity) at B. B. Kings a glorious night of Latin jazz. The luminaries included Francisco Aguabella, Justo Almario, Poncho Sanchez, Alex Acuna, Otmaro Ruiz, Louie Perez (Los Lobos), Danilo Lozano, Al McKibbon, Freddie Crespo, Arturo Velasco, Luis Conte, Sal Cracchiolo, Ramon Flores, Robert Incelli, Papo Rodriguez, Rene Camacho, Michito Sanchez, Francisco Torres, Joe Rotundi, Tiki Pasillas, George Ortiz, Cougar Estrada, Asdru Sierra(Ozomatli), Susie Hansen, Ramon Banda, Tony Banda, Joey De Leon, and Juan Carlos Quintero.

Fresh, original compositions, by Jose Rizo and Francisco Torres, and arranged by Francisco Torres, Robert Incelli and Joe Rotundi, were rehearsed and performed. Cubop Records documented the night, and released it in two volumes: “Jazz on the Latin Side All Stars Vol.1 & Vol. 2.”

The success of that night was so impressive, that the JLS All Stars band was formed, and requests for performances became more frequent. It has evolved into a 16-piece working band with the additions of Donald Vega, Pablo Mendez, Scott Martin, Eric Jorgensen, Luis Eric Gonzalez, Coky Garcia, Alfredo Ortiz, Victor Baez, Bijon Watson and Jimmy Branly.

Our Los Angeles supporters can come see us frequently at The Jazz Bakery, John Anson Ford Theatre, Luckman Fine Arts Complex, The Central Avenue Jazz Festival, The House of Blues, Steamer’s Café, Jazz at Drew Festival and The Playboy Pasadena Jazz Festival among others. The Jazz on the Latin Side All Stars were the after-party music entertainment for the 2002 Latin Grammys. Now under the Saungu record label, The JLS All Stars begin a fresh chapter.
