America’s Most Beautiful Bike Ride
The Reno-Tahoe Territory of the Nevada Commission on Tourism, Bikeway 2006 and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of America invite you to participate in the 15th annual America’s Most Beautiful Bike Ride - Lake Tahoe, one of the most scenic and awe-inspiring rides you will ever experience. Spectacular scenery, clean mountain air, great food and full support by experienced ride organizers make this ride a ‘must do’ for any avid recreational bicyclist.
Bikeway 2006
America’s Most Beautiful Bike Ride continues to promote Bikeway 2006, a bi-state project to build and connect existing bike lanes around Lake Tahoe and to develop an alternative non-motorized transportation corridor to help protect Lake Tahoe’s environment.
Nationwide Team in Training
The ride is also proud to be the century selected by the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of America’s Team In Training Program where participants from over 60 different cities across the country will raise over $7 million to support their mission of finding a cure for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life for their patients and families.
Start - Finish
America’s Most Beautiful Bike Ride will Start and Finish at the Lake Tahoe Horizon Casino Resort on Highway 50, Stateline, South Shore Lake Tahoe, Nevada. The Horizon offers 24 hour Nevada-style fun, a variety of restaurants, shops, live entertainment, night club, cinema, outdoor hot tubs, swimming pool, free parking and special lodging rates for bike ride participants and guests.
Most Beautiful
The 72-mile America’s Most Beautiful Bike Ride circumnavigates the highways clockwise around Lake Tahoe in both Nevada and California. It includes a challenging 800 foot climb to a rest stop overlooking Emerald Bay and a 1,000 foot climb to Spooner Junction. There are also many short rolling ascents and descents totaling over 2,600 vertical feet of elevation gain! The altitude ranges between 6,300 feet and 7,100 feet above sea level and the ride is recommended for conditioned recreational bicyclist, not for beginners. Participants must be at least 14 years of age (please, no children on bike carriers or trailers) and must be experienced in riding roadways.
Most Mileage - Beautiful & Historic Century
For the more conditioned bicyclist and Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of America’s “Team In Training” participants, a full 100-mile Century is offered adding an out and back on Highway 89/ Bike Trail to visit historic Truckee, California, before continuing around Lake Tahoe.
Most Fun for Friends and Family
For the recreational bicyclist who would like to mix sight-seeing and bicycling, the Boat Cruise & 35-mile Lake Tahoe Half Ride Fun Tour is offered.
The ride starts at 6:45am with a short 1 mile ride to Ski Run Marina where you and your bike board the Tahoe Queen for a scenic boat cruise to North Lake Tahoe. From there, you will join the ride course for the remaining 35-mile ride back to the Horizon Casino Resort. It comes with continental breakfast onboard & ride t-shirt, lunch on the course, rest stops and more. This Fun Boat Cruise is now open to friends and family members who would like to accompany participants across the Lake and return to Ski Run Marina. A fun-filled experience limited to 150 bicyclists & 50 guests.
Support
Rest stops with a great selection of food and beverages are offered overlooking Emerald Bay, Homewood Mountain Resort, Albertson’s in Truckee (for Century riders), Kings Beach (Lunch), and Spooner Junction.
