The natural world awaits you… Nestled on 400 acres in the heart of California’s wine country, Safari West is home for over 400 exotic mammals and birds. Not a zoo, not a drive-through park, it’s a wildlife preserve where the whole family can experience some of nature’s most beautiful animals in a natural habitat. Established by Peter Lang in 1979, Safari West gained membership in the American Zoo and Aquarium Association, one of only six private facilities in North America to belong to that prestigious organization. The ongoing mission of Safari West is wildlife preservation through breeding, education, research and public interaction. But Safari West is more than a preserve. We are dedicated to raising awareness of our exotic neighbors and promoting understanding through in-person contact. That’s why we offer safaris year-round. If your only experience with a zebra or giraffe has been at a zoo, you should see these beautiful animals in their natural habitat. You owe it to yourself, and to them.

Bed, breakfast and a room with a view… of giraffes! “The best way to visit is to spend the night, so you can hear the nightly serenade, the likes of which you’ve never heard outside of an African savannah.” Enjoy all the creature comforts when you spend the night in one of our luxury tents—”It’s like having a tent over your room!” Pale-green canvas walls enclose plush beds, hot showers and rustic but elegant trappings. There are polished wood floors, gleaming copper basins in the private bathrooms and one-of-a kind hand hewn furniture. Tents are imported from Africa and are built on high wooden platforms with spacious decks where guests can take in the view of grazing giraffes or enjoy the serenity of the private lake. It’s the height of luxury. Rates: Safari Tents: Choose from one king size bed, king size bed with double size bunk beds, or two double beds. Ensuite bathroom with shower. Outdoor sitting area. $225.00 a night for two people, each extra person $25. Maximum occupancy: five guests. Continental breakfast included. (two night minimum stay Friday and Saturday, May through September) Inquire about availability with Guests Services Cottage: If canvas isn’t your style, try our charming cottage. Suitable for up to eight guests, the two-bedroom cottage is equipped with a king bed, a double bunk bed and a queen futon. Private bathroom, kitchenette (mini-fridge, sink, microwave and coffeemaker) and outdoor sitting area are all part of this spacious dwelling. $350.00 a night for four people, each extra person $25.00. Recommended occupancy: four to eight guests. Continental breakfast included. (two night minimum stay Friday and Saturday, May through September)
