Let’s Talk Mud

Sometimes 100% doesn’t mean the best. And when it comes to mud, they should know. Dr. Wilkinson’s unique mud formula is based on over 5 decades of doing what is best for the client instead of promoting the latest trends. There are lots of places in Calistoga that think a mud bath is sprinkling some ash in the bathtub – at Dr. Wilkinson’s you sink into a warm oozy tub of mud.

The mud bath consists of a combination of local volcanic ash, imported peat, and naturally boiling hot springs water. Designed for maximum heat penetration and buoyancy, the tried and true mud formula has long been recognized as Calistoga’s finest. While volcanic ash cleanses and smooths your skin, the peat buoys you up and allows the mineral water’s soothing heat to penetrate more deeply. Lavender aromas help to relax both the body and mind.

Mud baths originated hundreds of years ago in the European countries and continued as a popular heat treatment with the Native Americans.

In the forties and fifties, mud bath treatments were mainly sought after by older people seeking relief from rheumatism and arthritis. In the seventies mud bath treatments became popular to reduce stress, relax and feel rejuvenated. Whatever your reason, try a mud bath — you will love it!

The mud bath lasts from 10 to 12 minutes and is followed by a warm, cleansing mineral water shower. Next is a bubbling, aromatic mineral bath to soothe and further unwind…then enjoy the natural mineral steam room. A blanket wrap follows…swaddled in all natural fresh blankets, a nap and slow cool down feel perfect and comforting after the various baths. Here at Dr. Wilkinson’s, only the best will do and our experienced staff of massage therapists and estheticians, most of whom have been here for years, fully realize the value of an excellent treatment. This treatment known as “The Works” is our most popular treatment.
