Get this year’s Edinburgh’s Hogmanay off to a sizzling start on the Torchlight Procession.
It begins at Parliament Square on the Royal Mile where you can exchange your voucher for a torch. Follow the Lerwick Up Helly Aa Vikings and The Clann, join thousands of others and create a spectacular river of fire through the city. Wind your way down The Mound, along Princes Street and up Calton Hill.
You will be accompanied along the way by the Barnton & Dalkeith Pipe Band, the Coalburn Pipes and Drums, and the Trinity Occasionals. You will be entertained by the Tartan Dholies, Schnickelfritz and TaPooka.
Once at the top of Calton Hill, things really heat up with the ceremonial burning of the Viking long-ship as well as this years wicker and willow effigy, Skyfyre’s fire sculptures, performers and a spectacular firework display – all to the soundtrack of the Commotions playing live under the stars.
To make sure you get a torch, you can buy vouchers in advance. Proceeds go to Radio Forth’s Help A Child Appeal, which helps children across Edinburgh, the Lothians and Fife. Proceeds also go to One City Trust.
