Tralee Festival Meeting - Ireland
The Tralee Horse Racing Festival Meeting is held annually in conjunction with the Rose of Tralee Pageant.
The first recorded racemeeting in the Tralee area was in 1767 and many different courses were used before racing moved permanently to its present location at Ballybeggan Park in 1898. The site, which was formerly a deerpark, was leased from its owners, the family of Daniel O’Connell, the Liberator. Work then began on turning the place into a proper racecourse and funding was provided from the townspeople. However, the economic recession in the 1930’s forced the company into liquidation. But in 1946 a number of local people formed a company, bought the course and resurrected racing there in October that year.
